It felt as if time had stopped

Our wedding day was magical. We started at our hotel with intimate shots of us getting ready followed by our first look photos. We then traveled to the “secret waterfall” that Jenny found as she went scouting for us for to find a place where water and mountains met(Jenny even surprised the officiant who had never been there before or even heard of this secret little waterfall). We hiked to the base and exchanged our vows after a beautiful custom ceremony from the Icelandic officiant from the Icelandic Ethical Humanist organization.

It felt as if time stopped, no interruption from outsiders. Our next stop after the ceremony was a little picnic amongst wildflowers near the Gjain Valley, with meats, cheese, fruit vegan carrot cake and lots of Floki Icelandic Sheep dung whisky. We found a tiny Viking chapel where we took some of our favorites photos playing around the area. As it started to rain we were off the our next adventure, we stopped more than once to say hi to the sheep before arrived at the our last little hike for the day. As we trekked up the hill sides, around rock, in the water  and through the less traveled path we encountered waterfall after waterfall merging into one another. Words cannot describe this location and how we felt to be there.  At the end of the day we stopped at a black sand beach, walked through a steaming hot spring valley and ended our perfect iceland elopement soaking it all in at our hotel pool watching the stars rise and the sheep on the hill side.

What was the best part of your wedding day?

Jaime

It’s hard to choose one moment as the best part of our day.  We explored several places each with its own unique beauty. It truly felt as if each location was reserved just for us with and Jenny allowed us space to connect in each moment so that we could be natural and in the moment.

We woke up to a sunny day and sheep wandering around in the backyard. We started the day with our ceremony which was a short walk from out cabin in the Valley around Mt Helka. Our ceremony was on a brook in the tall icelandic grass along with our guest of honor. the WIND! Jenny told us of hte famous icelandic wind but you have no idea how incredible it is until you are standing in the middle of it. We had no set plans for the rest of the day. We decided to leave it very open and see where the day takes us. We ended up heading south stopping at black stone and mossy river out in the countryside, communed with some sheep, ate fancy smoked salmon sandwich and zucchini soup, trekked through the beautiful yet treacherous Reynisfjara black beach, (do not go close to the waves, they are very unpredictable) toasted to our healths with Viking amber and lager at a pub in Vik, and ending the journey by making a wish before the towering Skógafoss waterfall. The night ended with us holding hands, staring at a setting sun and the calm one feels after reeling in from an adventure. Best day of our life.

Why would you recommend Iceland as a destination for weddings?

Iceland was an incredible adventure. This is a world with a unique ecosystem, with sites that you've only seen in films or imagined in fairy tales. There is a rich culture here that makes Iceland truly intoxicating to take in, with friendly people, fascinating history, and tasty foods.

What tips do you have for couples eloping to iceland?
Rest on the first day you arrive. Go to one of the geothermal pools. They are in every town and there area ton of them in the capital. Be prepared for long drives. I found the roads quite hypnotic, so chewing on jerky helps.
